I read a book.

I love books.
I love buying/renting books.
I love reading books.

For some reason though, I don't read them near as much as I'd like.

I blame school mostly and the fact that by the time I actually sit down and read something that's not work or school related, I fall asleep pretty darn quick.

Also, I blame Netflix. I know, I know. #firstworldprobs...
>> To my defense, I really haven't watched many TV shows/movies lately either. My Netflix is feeling pretty neglected.

However, before school went into full force, I was able to finish this bad boy up!

I'm not the best with book summaries because as most of you know, I'm a rambler.
I always feel like I say too much and give too much away.
Then, in my attempts to not say too much, I don't say enough and make the book sound lame.

However, I shall try.
Because, I read a book. A whole book. I want to remember how this feels!
And because it could potentially be after graduation before it happens again.

THIS. BOOK.
..... holy twists, turns, plots, so.many.supernatural.beings.i.can't.keep.up, crazy visualizations, predictable but then again not predictable, freaky, exciting, typical love triangle that somehow isn't in any way/shape/form typical at all....
YEAH.

Will I read the rest of the series?   Probably.
However, because of the way this first book ended, I was left speechless and honestly freaking out a bit... I HAD to google what becomes of a certain ummm "situation" because I just couldn't deal with not knowing. This wasn't like an Edward/Bella/Jacob, situation either. Or, even an obnoxious half vamp-half human baby kind of situation. This was something that I literally could not go on to the next book without knowing what I was heading into. With that said, now that I know what to expect and what book to expect it in, I feel heaps better about the series as a whole. So, I'm sure I will eventually continue on to the rest of the books!
Do I recommend this book? Despite all the craziness... Yes! I do. Especially to all my friends that love YA reads. I have a strong feeling it'll be unlike anything you've read so far :)

And of course, it's been made into a movie.

Let's Talk About Sex Baby

This weekend I'm off to a sex convention.
Well, sorta. I'm volunteering at it.
Yeah, with my church.
BOOM.
You're minds blown right now huh?!
Well good, it should be.

'Romance Uncensored' is a national annual convention put on by my pastor and his wife and it's for married couples to get together for a weekend and talk about, you guessed it, sex.

Whether or not that word, that term, that concept, or the act itself makes you uncomfortable is, no offense, kind of irrelevant. We unfortunately don't have a choice. It's everywhere. In our minds, in our DNA, in our desires, in our tv shows, in our books, in our music, in our workplace, in our schools, in our homes, it's even in our freaking foods (aphrodisiacs people).  We can't escape it and the more we are ashamed of it, the more hurt and harm we inevitably cause for ourselves.

I'm a firm believer that if the church would talk about sex more, our reality would be radically different. Now, I'm not talking about the stereotypical kind of talk either...
SEX IS FROM SATAN!!!!!!!
PREMATRTIAL SEX = STRAIGHT SHOT TO HELL, GOD WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!
WHEN YOU ARE MARRIED, THE MAN IS ONLY ALLOWED ON TOP AND THAT'S IT! EVERYTHING ELSE IS SINNNNN!
.....................
FALSE.
You may think that sounds crazy, but you know it's what most people at some point of their lives have been led to believe. Which is just down right heartbreaking.

I'm so blessed to be apart of a spiritual family that's open, honest, in your face with sex and all it's many colors. For me, it's not only been eye opening, but more life changing than anything.

In honor of sextember, I'm going to share a few of my all time favorite videos about the topic:

PS... Some exciting stuff is in the works for this ol' bloggy of mine. FINALLY!
Stay tuned for the new(ish) direction and some actual blogging all coming your way sometime next week. Happy Weekending you beautiful people!

A smile for your monday

So, I had this deep and meaningful post planned out, but that will just have to wait until another time. This commercial just trumped any and all previously planned posts. I'm not sure how long it's been out but I just saw it last night and I don't know why but I literally cannot stop laughing! Maybe it's because I'm kind of a Star Wars nerd... Kind of a lot actually. I'm not sure but either way... Holy hilarious.

Happy Monday everyone :)

My Week With Marilyn...

.... I WISH! Can you just imagine how truly stunning she was to be around? I can. For those of you who didn't already know this, I'm sorta obsessed with Marilyn. Like, so obsessed I want to be her. I think she is the most beautiful woman to have ever lived and is truly America's sweetheart and dare I say the first sex symbol? Her life was such a beautiful tragedy. All she really ever wanted was to be loved. Goodness, I could go on about her for days.
This title is from an upcoming British movie featuring Michele Williams portraying the famous icon. I'm anxiously awaiting the release date (November 4th!) of just another outlook on this amazing woman's life! Also, another plus to the movie, for all you Harry Potter fans out there, Emma Watson is in this film too. Bonus!

Some interesting facts about MM that you may not know:
  • Her real name was Norma Jean Mortenson, which was quickly changed to Norma Jean Baker after she was born.
  • Who her biological father really was is still a mystery.
  • She was orphaned for different periods of her life, as her biological mother was mentally unstable and in and out of mental instituitions.
  • She was on the cover of the first ever Playboy magazine in December 1953.
  • She was only 36 when she died.
  • Her death was ruled an accidental overdose but suicide and/or homicide are options that are still being investigated to this day. Many people believe that Kennedy party had something to do with her death, as she was rumored to have had intimate affairs with both JFK and his brother, Bobby. As much as I love the Kennedy family, this is a subject that still intriguies me.
  • Monroe was married three times, all of which ended in divorce.

Anne Hathaway+Vogue+NPR= A wonderful Tuesday

Anne Hathaway.
Need I say I anymore?
I didn't think so...

I really have trouble thinking of a woman more lovely than Anne.
{I speak as though I know her personally. It's fine.}
I almost feel like I do after this amazing interview from Fresh Air on NPR
(read and listen!)

And as if all that wasn't enough to make us love her, check out the former Princess of Genovia in Vogue.
((Can I please be her... Just for a day!))
Once classes are over and I have a life ((and money)) again, I fully intend to see this movie asap.

One BIG, GIANT, MEGA bonus to this movie besides Anne...
two words friends:
Jake Gyllenhaal.

Hey Jude

For a happy way to end your Friday!
(ps... You must, must, must watch the entire clip, for the best is at the end)

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.
~e.e. cummings

Trick or treat, smell my feet. Give me something good to eat!

Is October really almost over?! Did I really turn the big 21? Wasn't I JUST blogging about how exicted I was that October was here?! Wasn't it just 75-80 degrees outside? What's going on?!

Life is passing by faster and faster each day. It's crazy to think about. However, with the end of the 10th month approaching, one cannot help but get excited because that can only mean one, no two things; HALLOWEEN AND HOMECOMING!  Although, I sure do wish our homecoming was a little bit more extravagant like Oklahoma State's homecoming.:

(TO ALL MY OSU FRIENDS: CAN YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THIS CLIP?!)

I can't complain too much about the UofA homecoming celebrations... It's pretty hard to top THAT!

And of course, how can we not talk about Halloween. Last year's Halloween was a total bust for me and my friends. Not a single one of us dressed up. ((What were we thinking?!)) So what if we're all over the age of 13.... That doesn't matter. So, needless to say that this year we are going to redeem ourselves and go alllll out! I am going to be the oh-so-wonderful, Marilyn Monroe! For those of you who know my obsession I know you aren't surprised. I was reminicsing and over the years I have done....

  The toga thing...
The Dorothy thing...

The school girl thing...

The cowgirl thing...

And of course, the 80's thing...

Out of alllll those costumes, I have NO IDEA how Marilyn hasn't happened yet. But, no fear friends! She will be most certainly be out this Saturday! Have a great weekend with what ever you decide to do, but of course
BE SAFE!
Much love.

Animation Love

Don't you just love a good animation film? I know I do. It brings me back to the good ol' days of recess and popsicles. My roommates and I rented this movie a week or so ago and I FELL IN LOVE! It's so good. I would recommend everyone go out and buy/rent it.

Also, I cannot WAIT to see this new movie, Tangled.  Rapunzel was one of my favorite childhood stories (I used to pretend I had hair as long and beautiful as hers) and this new, hip, edgy twist just looks too good to pass up! So excited to see this Thanksgiving film. Who's with me?!

CCC: Citizen Cope Concert

Let the Drummer Kick sensation, Citizen Cope, came to perform at the ever famous George's Majestic Lounge this past week and I was fortunate enough to be there! Between amazing seats, great crowd, and an encore,  it was impossible not to have a great time. Even after hours of playing lead singer, Clearance Greenwood, handed free CD's at the end of the show! Thank you sir, you're too kind.

Here is a video of the song they are most famous for, but you can find more videos of the concert HERE.

Dear Friends...

We all have those up and down times. And when life knocks us down, sometimes we need a little extra help.. And whenever that time comes and you're having a two-star kind of day, I want to offer a few "pick-me-up" suggestions of my own.

  •  Do something that makes you feel good about yourself. Community service, workout, facial, nails, or in this example, your makeup.

  • Watch/read/think things that make you happy.
  • And above everything else, NEVER forget how to smile.

Oh My...

I'm not sure how to describe the noises that a dog makes... Mine especially. If I had to though, I'd say it's a mix between a wolf, the scary chick from the grudge, and an occasional baby whining. For your entertainment, I bring you the wonderful language of Jackson. Happy Tuesday everyone!

The Social Network

One student,
One idea,
changed America forever.

It's about time someone told his story.

Oh and look...
October.
Just in time for my birthday.
Perfect.

A journey in jeans-- this is so cool!

"The video, which was sponsored by Levi's and combines stop-motion with time-lapse photography, features a man (wearing denim, natch) walking from New York to San Francisco. ABC News explains that "the video is not conventional moving pictures. It pieces together still photos taken on an actual, 14-day cross country trip — no green screens involved." When all was said and done, it took over 2,700 images to complete."

Look!
